about

The narrator finds themselves in a frozen and inhospitable wilderness, searching for a way out but always traveling in circles and coming across landmarks that seem to point themselves to a location that the narrator never seems to find. The imagery is meant to addresses the feeling of navigating through a world built only to serve itself, becoming less and less motivated to find your way out of the cycles that you have no personal connection to—only an obligation to complete— because the world tells you over and over again that it’s your purpose.

lyrics

Tracks in the frost circle perfectly into themselves With no discernible departure from what I can tell Ever convinced I’m not alone, I follow where footsteps fell Each time greeted with the same silence I’ve come to know so well

These trees all look the same as I’m led further astray

Stark monoliths, each a tribute to the feral gods of this lonely place Denizens of a world untouched by the warmth of day Each branch reaches toward the same direction in which they gaze Toward their own reflections in the frozen lakes

Each one focused on their own familiar shape

Threats of death whispered among them coalesce into a roar And I fall on bended knees on command of a language I’ve not heard before I only hope I can arise before the coming of the storm

Blood pounds within my ears as the cold permeates my flesh And, as I’m sealed into this resting place, I welcome death

I understand the end is near as the surface reflects my frozen stare But in my weary state of mind, I can’t force myself to care I come to know the life contained in this place I once thought bare Concealing all who wandered through the paths I’ve shared

Never to acknowledge my own internal strife I’ll rest here ever-convinced the path I chose was right Tracks that I’ve followed end with where I’ve come to die Sunk cost-purchased progress brought about the end of life
